Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) Programs

Register to Participate in GSNC Programs

Girl Scouting offers girls the opportunity to explore their skills and interests which will inspire them to reach their personal best through a variety of fun and enriching leadership experiences. But more importantly, no matter where or how they participate, girls get the necessary guidance they need from adult volunteers and council staff to develop their leadership skills and understand how those skills can be used to make a difference in the world.

Rather than just meeting in a Troop setting, Girl Scouts in Nassau County have the opportunity to participate in events and programs.

Before registering for a GSNC Program, please review important registration information.

GS GARDENERS

Who wants to get dirty? Since 2009 that’s exactly what GSNC Troops have been doing by becoming gardeners at The Farm at Oyster Bay. Both girls and adults will learn how food goes from seed to table. You will plant seeds, weed, do pest control, and harvest the organic vegetables grown. In the Girl Scout tradition, we will be donating all the produce to local food pantries; last year it was over 800 lbs!

By participating for 3 weeks, 2 days per week, throughout the growing season, you will discover what it takes to be a gardener. The planning meeting must be attended by a Leader or adult and only 2 girl representatives; girls will report back to their Troops what they learned. At this meeting you will hear what is expected, girls will help make the rules to follow, and Troops will pick the 3 weeks that they will be tending the garden.

Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors, who are working on their Journeys can become “Under Gardeners” to help when the younger girls come to work at The Farm. This successful program component will continue for the third year. Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts can earn the Community Service Award by attending a training given by The Farm and then completing 20 hours of service.

Healthy Living InitiativeAny programs that feature the Healthy Living Initiative Symbol are programs that are considered to be in line with Girl Scouts of Nassau County's Healthy Living Initiative.

The Healthy Living Initiative brings a unique perspective to keeping girls healthy. Girls define health in their own terms, placing as much emphasis on emotional and social well-being as physical health, nutrition and physical fitness. In addition to healthy eating and physical fitness, the Healthy Living Initiative focuses on increasing girls’ self-esteem, media image awareness and how to develop healthy relationships.
