Girl Scout Week 2014

Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC)

By Patricia Paluszek
MVP Specialist, Programs

Mark Your Girl Scout Calendar: Girl Scout Week is March 9 -15!

Each year, on March 12th, Girl Scouts across the country celebrate Girl Scouts' Birthday, commemorating the day on which Juliette Gordon Low officially registered the organization's first 18 girl members in Savannah, Georgia.

Girl Scout Week is celebrated each March, starting with Girl Scout Sunday and ending with Girl Scout Sabbath on Saturday, and it always includes the Girl Scout Birthday, March 12. During the week, we hope everyone will show their Girl Scout pride by participating in activities on GSNC’s Girl Scout Week Calendar.

Also during Girl Scout Week, GSNC is hosting the new and exciting program, Women of the World at Orchard Hill. Portrayed by the GSNC Theatri-Gals, Juliette Gordon Low and her famous Girl Scout guests will welcome you to Orchard Hill, the beautiful 19th century home of the Phipps family. You’ll meet and mingle with guests as you learn more about their contributions to their fields.

The Resource Room has program materials to help your Troop celebrate GSUSA's 102nd Birthday!

Have fun with the Juliette Low Action Story, Juliette Low "Kim's Game", or step back in time with the The Golden Eaglet (DVD), Celebrate Girl Scouts' Birthday this year with a special ceremony, music or craft. To borrow materials, visit the Resource Room on our website or contact Diane Seekamp, by email at or by phone at 516.741.2550, ext. 244.

Cookies and More

2014 Girl Scouts of Nassau County's Cookie Rewards

By Lucy Effron
Director, Entrepreneurial Programs

Holiday Pizzazz and Girl Scout Cookies
Looking to add some fun to the remaining days of the Cookie Program? You might want to consider decorating your Cookie Booth or your walkabout wagon for upcoming holidays. Tuesday March 4 is Mardis Gras, and a purple box of Samoas, paired with a green box of Thin Mints all tied together with a gold ribbon make a wonderful Mardis Gras party gift! Saturday March 15 is the beginning of Purim, a Jewish holiday which includes giving gift baskets to family and friends. Since all of our Girl Scout Cookies are Kosher, they are an ideal Purim treat! And, don’t forget St. Patrick’s Day on March 17 – a perfect day to give, and receive Thin Mints!

Are you almost at your Cookie Goal?
Maybe your goal is to sell enough boxes to earn a particular patch, or a reward item or a Cookie Credit. Or maybe you have in mind a certain number of boxes that you’d like to have donated to Operation Cookie. Whatever your goal, there’s still plenty of time to sell Cookies!

GSNC Cookie Rewards 2014 - 110 plus levelDid your Troop set a goal and does it look like you’ll achieve it? The Council goal is for each girl to sell at least 100 boxes of Cookies. We’re getting close! Are you near that goal? If your Troop receives rewards, there are two great items to choose from if you sell 110 boxes.

All girls who sell 500 boxes of Cookies will be invited to a special Dessert Reception in May with the GSNC CEO, Donna Ceravolo. And, everyone who receives at least 100 donations for Operation Cookie will earn the opportunity to participate in a program delivering Girl Scout Cookies to a local military base.

Here’s hoping we have some great March weather to help achieve these goals!
