It’s your Business! Run it with your own Magazine Business Cards!


When your Troop Mags&Munchies Manager hands out the girl packets, you’ll find your very own business cards inside. With adult supervision, go to girlscouts.qspgao.com/gsnc to easily set up your store’s home page and message, then write the assigned online ID on the card. Use your people skills to distribute the cards while encouraging friends and family to subscribe to magazines in support of your goals and your Troop’s activities.

Girls Go the Distance 2014 Patch Design Contest


Show your creativity by entering the 2014 Girls Go the Distance Walkathon Patch Design Contest. Registered Girl Scouts are invited to submit an original patch design no larger than a 3-inch circle. Entries must be submitted by December 6, 2013.

MOTIV8 presents 8 Ways to Rock Your Own World!


Join award-winning songwriter and empowerment speaker Sheira Brayer for this event which combines humor and music to learn how to reduce stress and improve relationships with your mother or daughter. This event will take place on Sunday, October 20th from 11:00am-2:00pm at the Long Island Sheraton in Hauppauge. It is for pre-teen and teenage girls (Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors), and a parent or guardian. To register, call Sheira Brayer at 516.965.0487 or go to motiv8.eventbrite.com. The Veterans History Project


Congressman Steve Israel, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone invite you to take part in the Veterans History Project. The Veterans History Project was established by the Library of Congress to collect and preserve personal stories and other documents from American war veterans. This project plays an active role in documenting our history by bringing together members of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from across Long Island with Long Island’s war heroes through facilitating interviews that will be recorded.


There are three parts of the project that we ask for your participation in:

 


A training from the NY Historical Society
October 12, 2013 at the Hicksville Public Library’s Computer and Resource Center
PLACE: 101 Jerusalem Avenue, Hicksville
TIME: 1:30pm-3:30pm


A 30-minute interview session with a veteran
November 2, 2013 at the Huntington Station VFW Post #1469
PLACE: 210 West Pulaski Road, Huntington Station
TIME: 10:00am-3:00pm


A film screening of the interviews that will be submitted to the Library of Congress
November 9, 2013

AMVETS Post 88 Flag Retirement Ceremony


AMVETS Post 88 in Massapequa invites Girl Scouts to attend their Flag retirement on Saturday October 5, 2013 beginning at 10:00am at Tobay Beach (on the bay side). If your Troop has any old flags that you would like included in the Flag retirement ceremony, please contact Robert Lane, 2nd Vice Commander of AMVETS Post 88 at 631.782.0341.

 

 

 

 

Senator Fuschillo's Cell Phones for Soldiers

 

Please help Senator Fuschillo help those who serve our country by participating in his cell phones for soldiers program. It’s easy to participate! Simply drive up, drop off any of your old, unwanted cell phones, and drive away. All donated cell phones will help purchase pre-paid calling cards for U.S. troops stationed overseas to call home.

Daisy Girl Scouts and their families are invited to participate in a self-guided museum quest and “Daisy Hunt.” There’s even a thrilling ride as the pilot of the F-11 Grumman Tiger on our X-Ride!

Love Your Heart Program for Girl Scouts

Love Your Heart

The North Shore-LIJ Health system and the American Heart Association have joined together to teach girls about heart healthy living. This fun and interactive class is taught by Registered Nurses specializing in cardiology, and explains the basic anatomy and function of the heart. A special emphasis will be placed on healthy practices, including exercise activities, healthy food choices and not smoking. Each girl will leave the class feeling empowered to take charge of her heart health.
