DELL Think Tank & GSUSA’s Game On - Girls & Technology Event!

Girl Scouts from Nassau County Take Part in DELL Think Tank & GSUSA’s Game On - Girls & Technology Event!

By Patty Donohue-Brown
STEM Program Specialist

On Wednesday, September 18, 2013 some of GSNC's own participated in DELL's Think Tank and GSUSA’s Game On - Girls & Technology event. The girls were the stars of the day as they showed gamers, GSUSA and DELL staff how the interactive game “Be the Video Game Developer” should be played. Our girls were the first in the country to use this new interactive game! They had a great time being video game developers for a day!

Together, DELL and Girl Scouts are committed to empowering girls with the tools to explore what's possible with technology. "Be the Video Game Developer" allows girls to understand the role of technology, specifically computer programming, by creating video games.

At $5 per box, delicious and adorable Dulce de Leche Owls - along with Mint Penguins and Peanut Butter Bears - are a great value and a fun holiday treat!

Troop Funds from Mags&Munchies Program

Did you know that Troops in Nassau County earned over $50,000 for their Troop treasuries through the Mags&Munchies Program last year? Troops earn 10% of all magazine subscriptions and nut/snack orders, or 15% if they are a Troop (of Juniors or older) who opted-out of rewards and selected additional Troop Proceeds.

Troops can earn 15% in proceeds if they run a Mags&Munchies booth sale. Booth sales extend beyond the order taking portion of the program, and can be held up until November 13.

By now, all girls should have received a packet with information on taking orders for Nuts/Snacks and setting up their own web business for magazine subscriptions. There’s still plenty of time to participate in this program before order-taking ends on November 1. If you’re already involved with other organization’s group money-earning activities, don’t forget to SOS - Save One for Scouts!

Volunteers are the Foundation of Girl Scouting

Our volunteers make a difference…in the lives of girls, in the success of families and in the growth of communities. We have a position that is right for you.

Membership Organizers: Are you someone who likes meeting and working with a variety of people? Are you a good communicator and detailed oriented? Then you may be interested in becoming a contact for one of the schools in your town.

Individual Girl Coordinator: Are you detailed oriented and have good communication skills? This is a position that will keep girls not currently in Troops connected with other Girl Scouts in their own community.

Council Facilitator: Can you communicate information to small or large groups via trainings or workshops delivered several times during the year?

If you are interested in learning more about these volunteer positions, please contact Sue Carter, Volunteerism Manager at 516.741.2550 ext.231 or email carters@gsnc.org
