DHL and Girl Scouts Deliver More Than 1,000,000 Cookies to U.S. Military

Garden City, NY April 12, 2012 - The Girl Scouts of Nassau County and DHL, the Specialists in International Shipping, have partnered once again to deliver more than 1,000,000 Girl Scout Cookies to U.S. troops overseas. On April 11th at the Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Headquarters located in Garden City, NY, DHL Express picked up almost 50,000 boxes or more than one million Girl Scout Cookies to be transported to U.S. servicemen and women as a way to show appreciation for their valued service to our country.

“We sincerely thank our community for supporting Operation Cookie and allowing us to provide our military troops with a taste of home,” says Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County. “A huge thank you goes out to DHL, who since 2006, has so generously donated their shipping services to us. This would not be possible without their help!”

Girl Scouts of all ages helped package the Girl Scout Cookie® cases for delivery into the DHL Express truck. The Cookies were then carried to DHL's facility at JFK International Airport. From there, the Cookies will travel through DHL’s air network for final delivery to military bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Djibouti and Afghanistan by the end of this week.

The Girl Scouts of Nassau County Operation Cookie program offered customers the opportunity to help lift the spirits of servicemen and women by purchasing extra boxes or cases of Cookies to donate to the U.S. Military. Donations are still being accepted. For more information contact the GSNC Cookie Cupboard at 516 741-2550 at ext. 246 or visit www.gsnc.org.
