Freeport Resident elected to Girl Scouts of Nassau County Board
Garden City, NY (June 12, 2014) – The Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) has announced that during the recent 49th Annual Meeting, Andrea Elder-Howell has been elected to serve her first term as Member-at-Large on the Board of Directors of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Inc. She joins a panel of 29 board members in their mission to provide leadership, innovation and support to the Girl Scouts of Nassau County.
“We are beyond excited to have Andrea serve on the Board of Directors for her first term”, said Wanda Jackson, President of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County Board of Directors. “With Andrea’s extensive resume and eagerness to join the Board, we know she will provide us with leadership and the right skills to become a valuable contributor as well as someone who can continue to help shape girls into Girl Scouts”.
Elder-Howell has been practicing corporate and tax law for over 25 years. Elder-Howell is currently the associate director of The First Year Experience Community Action Learning and Leadership Programs at SUNY Old Westbury. This program helps place students in a variety of nonprofit organizations. Previously she served as the senior counsel for KeySpan Energy Corporation for over twelve years, and she also served as the vice president and assistant general counsel to RBS Sempra Commodities.
Elder-Howell received a BA in accounting from Queens College partnered with a Juris Doctor from Rutgers University School of Law and a Masters of Law in taxation from New York University School of Law. She currently serves as the chair of the New York State Society of Certified Public Account’s Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession program at Adelphi University. Elder-Howell is also a member of the New York State Bar Association.
